Fedor to possibly face Hendo this summer at Light Heavy Weight?

Following his big knockout victory over Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante this past weekend, everyone is wondering what’s next for new Strikeforce light heavyweight champ Dan Henderson. With no obvious title contenders on the horizon (though the Gegard Mousasi vs. Mike Kyle winner has been mentioned), several writers have suggested a novelty fight against former heavyweight king Fedor Emelianenko. Dan Henderson told MMA Junkie today that he would definitely be up for the challenge.

“Obviously, he’s still one of the top guys out there in the world, and it would be a huge challenge,” Henderson said. “It would interest me to go up.”

What are the chances of this fight happening though? Well, according to Scott Coker, they are at least considering it. He told MMA Junkie’s Steven Marrocco that they’ve only had “preliminary discussions,” but if it does happen, it wouldn’t this summer when Hendo plans to fight again.

I’m not big on these types of novelty fights, especially ones involving Fedor Emelianenko. We’ve had enough of those over the years. However, Fighter’s Only is hearing a scenario that would make this match-up very interesting. Word is Fedor is actually considering working off his doughy midsection and dropping down to light heavyweight to challenge Hendo for the title.

My personal opinion, Fedor would need to at least face 2 Light Heavy weight fighters in order to gain this shot, but we all know how Strikeforce may do this to bring a cool match up and get the money as well! But lets face it, Fedor doesnt deserve any title shot right now!
